Bioinformatics & Drug discovery
Bioinformatics is one of the way of science handling new types of data with many new algorithms and databases. Till today, bioinformatics tools are often categorized as high-throughput data acquisition technology as this interdisciplinary uses molecular data from genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics in comparing between symptom-carriers of diseases and normal controls.
Same as the term drug discovery is a way of discovering new medication for a disease with specific symptoms. In this context, a desirable drug can be either a chemical or a combination of chemicals which increases the body’s immunity against the disease with minimum side effects to the users, society and also environment.
I read through an informative review paper focusing on how bioinformatics can facilitate for drug discovery. The content of this paper explains on the connection of disease symptoms to genetic mutations, epigenetic modifications, and environmental factors modulating gene expression, identify drug targets, predicting drug candidates that can act upon the drug target to achieve the designed therapeutic result, and assesses the impact on environmental health and the potential of drug resistance.

It’s simple yet it’s informative.
